So, is the DB12 as hyped up as it seems to be or is it just another overpriced Aston?
Aston Martin has been synonymous with powerful V12 engines for decades and their flagship models have always come with a V12. Car enthusiasts and Aston Martin purists have been in a tizzy over the decision to put a twin turbo V8 in the DB12. Others say that this change is necessary to move forward with modern efficiency and performance standards. They view it as a betrayal of the brand’s heritage, giving up the character, the sound, of what the V12 Astons were. For starters, the talk usually concerns the fight for change in terms of automotive regulations, desires to achieve increased fuel economy, and the dilemma of modernizing tradition while maintaining innovation. Supporters of the V8 point to its impressive power output and reduced weight, while critics lament the loss of the V12's distinctive growl and smooth power delivery. In this debate, there is a discussion on whether engine configuration is something essential for a brand to embody, in the presence of environmental concerns and technological advancement.
Absolutely worth it! It is a massive leap from the DB11. Even the new infotainment system is worth the upgrade. And that V8 is perfectly tuned.
Overpriced? Maybe. What other car looks this good, drives this well? But here you have that. The specs are just one aspect, the experience is what matters.
I'd say it's overhyped. At that price point, you could get a Porsche 911 Turbo S with better performance and reliability, sure it’s gorgeous.
If you take into consideration all the reliability issues some early owners are reporting, it’s hard to justify the price. I would wait for the kinks to be worked out, but that is a beautiful car.
Don’t let the DB12’s pretty face fool you. It's a true driver's car with the improvements to the chassis and updating to the suspension. After a century of trying, Aston has finally built an Aston that can compete with the best from Ferrari and Porsche.
Who buys an Aston for value? No one. You purchase it for the zone, the appears to be like, the satisfaction. In spades the DB12 delivers on those fronts.
It’s a little bit a bit of both. There’s no doubt Aston have made a car that will impress, but they really need to up their game in terms of quality control as well as after sales support to justify the price tag.
It's definitely overhyped. The V8 is nice, but it’s a Mercedes engine. I don’t want parts bin and I don’t fancy Aston Martin money, I want something truly bespoke.
Exactly what Aston needed, the DB12 is a car that can rival the best in terms of technology and performance, but with that unmistakable Aston Martin charm. If ever someone asked me, totally worth every penny.
Not at all! The DB12’s V8 is a beast. The old V12 is not only more powerful, but more efficient. Aston is smart to change with the times.
Absolutely it does. The V12 sound was part of Aston's DNA. This V8 might be good, but it will never bring the same emotional impact.
I believe that it is a necessary evil. Aston needs to remain competitive, while emissions regulations are getting tighter. It's not a hybrid or electric powertrain choice, otherwise perhaps we’d complain... yet.
Performance is better than heritage. The DB12 is a more agile, more responsive car thanks to the V8. In every way it's an improvement.
If it were just the engine then I think it would still be one of the best experiences the community has seen. But the DB12 still is a proper Aston, V8 or not. On top of that, the engine is sourced from AMG, and it’s a gem.
I'm torn. Objectively, the V8 is better, but Aston’s V12s were something special. It’s a shame to lose a part of automotive history.
Honestly, most DB12 customers won’t even know or care what’s under the hood. All they care about is the badge and the looks.
I give it a thumbs up. The advantage of the V8 is that it allows better weight distribution and handling. And Aston has finally made a car that drives as good as it looks.
Definitely a departure but not necessarily a bad departure. Picking up the V8 also brings along new possibilities for tuning and performance upgrades.
Progress is important as well as heritage. The V8 DB12 is faster, more efficient, more relevant in today’s market. Aston made the right call.
