So how does the Qashqai perform in snow and poor weather?
The Nissan Qashqai is widely advertised as a crossover that can perform in most conditions, however there are some doubts about its real potential in extreme surroundings. Owners swear by its performance in snow and rain, but others feel it's lacking compared to true SUVs, or even some well equipped hatchbacks. It often also delves into the differences between front and all wheel drive Qashqais, and how well the Qashqai's various traction control systems work. Is the Qashqai a go anywhere family vehicle, or is it a vehicle for the urban environment with the occasional light off road use?
I have the AWD version and it's been great in the snow. It's not Land Rover levels of capability, but you won't need them for bad weather or light off roading. It really helps with the extra ground clearance.
Rubbish in snow is my FWD Qashqai. With winter tires, it still struggles on hills. If you live in an area with real winters, I think you need the AWD system.
For most conditions it is fine, but don't expect miracles. It helps with traction control, but it’s still essentially a tall hatchback. The car itself does not matter as much as good tires.
I was surprised that mine handled a snow storm so well last year. Not a Subaru, but with decent tires it felt stable and confident. Visibility is also helped by the high driving position.
It’s more about the driver and the tires than the car. Some people get stuck in Qashqais, others breeze through in Micras. If you do know what you're doing, it's capable enough.
