So, how does the KTM 1390 Super Duke R stack up to its rivals when it comes to real-world rideability?

Of course everyone raves about the raw power and aggressive nature of the KTM 1390 Super Duke R, but there is more to a great motorcycle than straight-line speed and track performance. Rideability in the real world means comfort for long rides, easy handling in cities, touring fuel efficiency, and all-around versatility in all riding conditions. In these areas, there are competitors like the BMW M 1000 R, Ducati Streetfighter V4, and Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory, and those models each have their own strengths. The Super Duke's upright riding position and wide handlebars are said by some riders to make it more comfortable for everyday use, while others argue that the power can be too much for city riding. The bike's electronics package and setup of the suspension also matter in different conditions. But this question is all about how the 1390 Super Duke R compares to its competitors in the real world, rather than the spec sheet, which is impressive.

Surprisingly versatile, in my experience, the 1390 is. Yes, it’s a beast on the track, but it’s also comfortable enough for long rides. A back saver is the upright position.

I've ridden the 1390 and the BMW M 1000 R, and I have to say the KTM feels more planted in the twisties. In the corners it's like it reads your mind.

In fact, I actually prefer something like the Streetfighter V4 for city riding. In stop-and-go traffic, the 1390's power can be a bit much.

The 1390 has top-notch electronics. Sport mode uncorks the beast if you want to have a bit of fun on the weekend, but rain mode makes it remarkably docile for commuting.

Last summer I toured on my 1390 and found it more comfortable than I expected. Although, for long distances, I would still go with the Tuono V4 Factory.

Fuel efficiency for its class is decent in the 1390s, but miracles aren't expected. When you’re having fun, it’s thirsty, which is pretty much always.

The 1390 is, in my opinion, the perfect all-rounder. Comfortable enough for daily use, but will still get you that adrenaline rush when you need it.
