Should Tata Magic IRIS be allowed as a school transport vehicle?

The use of Tata Magic IRIS for school transportation has been a much debated affair in many Indian communities. Although it can meander through thin streets, there are questions about its safety features with passengers. It’s also affordable and accessible, and some parents like that it’s accessible, even in areas where larger school buses can’t go. But others fear overcrowding, and that children aren't being properly protected. The use of these vehicles for school transport is a legal quagmire across different states. This also brings out the overall issues of offering secure and also productive school transportation in different urban as well as rural setup across India.

Absolutely not! It isn't child safe. We need school buses with seat belts and trained drivers.

It may be the only option in rural areas. It’s better than kids walking long distances, or not going to school at all.

If you add proper seats and safety features, it would work. It's not about the vehicle, it’s about implementation.

No way! Have you seen how these are driven? This is a disaster waiting to happen. Our kids deserve better.

It's a tough call. In ideal world, no. In reality, it is filling a gap in our transport system. It needs to be improved, not banned.

So maybe for the smaller kids and shorter distances. Not for older students, or long routes, definitely.

So, why not if it meets safety standards and is not overloaded? It’s not about the vehicle but about responsible usage.
