Should I wait for Tata Sierra or buy the Punch EV now?
I've been seriously considering buying an electric vehicle and I'm torn between two options. The Tata Punch EV is available right now at showrooms, and I've even taken a test drive in Bangalore. It felt really good for city driving, the torque is instant, and parking in tight spots is super easy. But then I keep thinking about the upcoming Sierra EV, which looks like a proper SUV with way more space and that retro design everyone's talking about.
My main concern is the waiting period. The Punch EV I can drive home next month, but the Sierra is still months away from launch, and who knows how long the actual delivery will take after bookings open. I need a car fairly soon because my current vehicle is giving me trouble, and relying on cabs in Delhi NCR traffic is getting expensive. Is it practical to wait when I have an immediate need, or am I being too impatient?
On the other hand, some people have told me the Punch EV is just a mini SUV and if I'm spending that kind of money, I should wait for something more substantial. The Sierra will likely have better features, more interior space, and honestly, it just looks more premium. My family includes four people plus occasional guests, so the extra room would definitely be useful for weekend trips to places like Lonavala or Nainital.
I'm also worried about resale value. If the Sierra launches with impressive specs at a competitive price, will the Punch EV lose value quickly? Or am I overthinking this? Would love to hear from anyone who's faced a similar dilemma between buying an available EV now versus waiting for an upcoming launch.
