Should Dodge bring the Viper back as a mid engine supercar?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
After the success of the mid engine Corvette, some have wondered if Dodge could bring back the Viper nameplate as a mid engine supercar to compete with high end European exotics. But this idea has sparked heated debates amongst Viper purists who say that a mid engine layout would betray the car's front engine V10 heritage. Some argue the Viper concept needs to evolve in order to give the brand a breath of new life, and help it compete in the modern supercar market. One of the things discussed is whether a mid engine Viper could retain the raw, analog feel of the original, and if so, how much of the modern tech and safety features could be incorporated. Other fans come up with compromise solutions such as a front mid engine layout or a V10 in a mid engine layout. It’s a topic that often leads to larger conversations around the future of American performance cars and how to best combine tradition with innovation.

The Viper was always in excess. Make it mid engine but with a V16. That's what Vipers do, go big or go home.

Why not both? For the purists make a front engine Viper and a mid engine version to compete with the Corvette. Best of both worlds.

It would be cool if they did have it mid engine, but only if they keep it raw and analog. There’s no dual-clutch, no turbos, just a screaming NA V10, and a manual. Then I'm on board.

I'd rather they concentrate on turning the Challenger into a real sports car. The Viper had its time, and it should be at peace.

The Viper has always been about being different. If everyone's going mid engine, maybe you go to the other side and you make it just as extreme as you possibly can front engine. Like a modern Cobra Daytona.

If it were done right, I think it could work. Don't get rid of the V10, maybe make it a hybrid, but put it behind the driver. America could be as simple as the Ferrari SF90.

There's no way, the Viper's whole identity is that massive hood with the engine in front. It would just make it some generic supercar going mid engine.
