People say the Maruti Alto is a reliable car. Is it really?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
For ages, the Maruti Alto has been a fixture on Indian roads, and it has been the car you want to be seen driving because it is reliable. Is this reputation still deserved? But some say that the newer models cut corners to hold costs down, while others swear by their trusty old Alto that's been running like a dream for years. We have stories of Altos covering 200,000 km without any real problems, and complaints about the newer Altos having frequent niggles. The debate also covers the Alto's reliability, and whether that makes up for its popularity among other budget cars. Discussed also are maintenance costs, availability of spare parts and the car’s performance in different terrains. Is the Alto's brand loyalty fueled by a myth or is it really the workhorse that the Indian automotive landscape is known to be?

If you take care of it, it's reliable. Negligence is the cause of most issues I have seen, not the fault of the car.

It's not just that something has to not break down. But I wouldn't call the Alto reliable for all conditions because it feels unsafe at high speeds.

Many other cars are reliable these days too, but the Alto is. It just rides on its old reputation now, not special anymore.

For city use it is reliable, but if you take it on highways or rough roads too often, you will see its limitations.

Newer models aren't as tough. My old 2008 model was niggly free for a decade and my 2019 Alto had more niggles in 2 years.

Reliable? Sure. That's because it's so basic. It’s like praising a brick for being durable.

Absolutely! Alto has been running for 12 years now, with barely any issues. It’s the car equivalent of the Nokia 3310.
