On long rides, pillion comfort on the Freedom 125 NG04 Disc is how does?

For many Indian riders who generally carry a pillion, pillion comfort is a major factor. The Freedom 125 NG04 Disc is touted as a commuter but there’s some debate as to how well it does with two people over longer distances. Fans of the bike praise its wide seat and grab rails, but other riders complain the suspension is too stiff for comfort. Discussions are ongoing as to whether or not the 125cc engine finds it difficult to cope with extra weight on highways or if it can do so. We are comparing pillion seating position, footpeg placement and overall ride quality with a passenger against other bikes in the segment. And this topic is particularly relevant if you tend to ride with other family members or use the bike on weekend getaways.

I find the Freedom 125 NG04 is good for short pillion trips but not for long rides. It has a wide enough seat, but the suspension will struggle with two people on bumpy roads. About an hour later my girlfriend was pretty uncomfortable.

I've taken my wife on the back a few times and done a couple 200km round trips and it wasn't so bad. Grab rails are also well placed and seat space is sufficient. Yes, it’s not as plush as a bigger bike, but for a 125cc commuter, it does the job. It’s fine, just take frequent breaks.

Both of you are missing a key point: it’s about expectations. This is not a touring machine, this is a budget 125cc bike. It’s fine for city rides and occasional short trip. If you're on the long ride every day with the pillion then you need to be looking at a whole different class of motorcycle.

By adding a gel seat cover and adjusting the rear suspension preload, I’ve found it makes a big difference for pillion comfort. These small tweaks aren't perfect, but they really do make for a better ride for both rider and passenger.

No 125cc bike is going to be great for long pillion rides, let’s be real about that. Of course, the Freedom does this better than most in its class. The plus is a wide seat and sturdy grab rails. It's still a small commuter at heart, don't expect miracles.

I don't think people are being harsh enough. The Freedom 125 NG04 is more than enough for pillion comfort for its intended purpose – mainly city commuting with occasional longer rides. Managing expectations, and riding within the bike's limits, is all.

For someone who rides with my kid to school every day, I think the Freedom 125 is just fine. The footpegs are comfortably sited for a child and the pillion seat is secure. It is okay for adult passengers on longer rides, but it’s not ideal.
