Maruti Suzuki extended warranty vs Smart Maintenance Plan in India: which cover should new-car buyers choose?
New-car quotations can bundle extended warranty and a Smart Maintenance Plan (SMP) as if they solve the same problem. Maruti Suzuki's current documents separate them: extended warranty covers eligible manufacturing or component failures after the primary warranty, subject to terms, while SMP prepays defined scheduled maintenance. The useful decision is which risk to cover, for how long and at what written price.
| Decision area | Extended warranty | SMP |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | Eligible component-failure cover after primary warranty | Defined periodic-maintenance labour, parts and consumables |
| Limits | Verify the exact plan and whichever-comes-first duration or mileage | Verify duration, kilometre limit, enrolment date and service count |
| Exclusions | Check wear, consumables, damage, modifications and maintenance conditions | Check wear items, extra services and excluded jobs |
| Best fit | Long holding period and repair-risk protection | Planned kilometres align with covered services and the quote beats realistic pay-as-you-go cost |
Maruti's current SMP page lists private-vehicle options up to ten years or 1 lakh km, whichever is earlier, but the certificate and written quotation control. What car, annual kilometres and holding period are you planning, and at what quoted price would failure cover, prepaid maintenance, both or neither make sense?
