Mahindra third-party PDI policy in India in 2026: proceed with dealer inspection or choose another SUV?
Mahindra buyers in India are debating what to do if a dealer will not allow an independent third-party pre-delivery inspection or an OBD scan. Mahindra customer care has publicly stated that its policy requires PDI through authorised dealerships. That confirms the brand position; it does not prove a particular vehicle is defective.
Before payment and registration
- Get the allowed inspection process in writing, including whether someone may accompany you and which diagnostic checks are permitted.
- Match VIN/chassis details and check Form 22 or manufacture month, odometer and tyre dates.
- Inspect in daylight: paint, panels, glass, wheels, cabin wear, warning lights and major electronics.
- Clarify when full payment and registration occur relative to your inspection.
- Question unfamiliar invoice charges and get the remedy for any defect in writing.
Independent buyer guidance recommends inspecting the allocated car before registration because leverage is lower afterward. Is a careful self-inspection plus written safeguards enough for a modern SUV, or should refusal of independent access end the purchase?
If choosing a 3XO, XUV700, Scorpio-N or a rival in the same budget, what matters most: third-party access, an electronics scan, written replacement terms, dealer trust, service support or the alternative model?
