Low-use city car for older parents in India: MG Comet EV, Tata Punch EV or a petrol automatic?
For a family choosing a city car for an older driver who travels about 20 km once a week, fuel savings are secondary to parking ease, access, simple controls, dependable support and a 10-year plan.
Shortlist
| Option | Price label | Fit | Verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| MG Comet EV | ₹7.80–10.07 lakh ex-showroom; BaaS from ₹4.99 lakh + ₹3.20/km | Four seats, 2,974 mm length, 4.2 m turning radius | Rear access, charger, BaaS terms |
| Tata Punch EV | Ranges start at ₹9.79, ₹11.94 and ₹12.69 lakh | Taller five-door body; 40 kWh option | Seat height, controls, charging, warranty, service |
| Nios AMT / Amaze CVT | Nios from ₹5.60 lakh; check automatic and Amaze city quotes | Familiar refuelling and passenger access | Gearbox feel, visibility, safety kit, parking fit |
What low use changes
An EV can be convenient with home charging, but such low mileage rarely makes fuel savings decisive. A petrol automatic removes charging dependence, yet its 12-volt battery, tyres, fluids and scheduled service still need attention while it sits.
The older driver should test seat height, step-in effort, visibility, pedal feel, gear-selector logic, touchscreen dependence and every door. Confirm parking dimensions, usual passengers, nearby support and written long-term warranty terms.
Which matters most: the Comet EV’s parking ease, the Punch EV’s access and space, or a petrol automatic’s familiarity? Share the city, parking size, weekly distance, charging possibility and the driver’s own test-drive feedback.
