The Aprilia SR 160 Carbon and the Yamaha Aerox 155 are often pitted as competitors, amongst the premium scooters. They are both sporty, powerful and feature rich compared to a conventional scooter. Yet they possess different characteristics that might attract different sorts of riders. When you try to pit these two models against each other there are variables like acceleration, top speed, handling, comfort, fuel efficiency and reliability. The Aprilia has Italian flair, and wild performance, while the Yamaha has refinement, and a reputation to boot. The problem comes from the fact that both scooters cost about the same, and buyers are left guessing which one has the better overall package for their needs. Spec sheet comparisons don’t tell the whole story, and real world experiences from owners who have ridden both can provide some valuable insight.

I have ridden both of them and the Aprilia feels more exciting. It corners like it's on rails and the throttle response is sharper. The Aerox is smoother, but less engaging.

The Aerox is the all rounder. It’s more comfortable for daily use, more fuel efficient, and Yamaha’s reliability is unbeatable. On looks, the Aprilia only wins.

In performance, they're pretty even, but the Aprilia has the edge in handling. Although the Aerox feels more stable at high speeds.

The Aprilia is the one that wins on character. It feels more special and gets more heads turned. The Aerox is great, it just doesn’t have that emotional appeal.

For practical reasons I’d go with the Aerox. It has a larger fuel tank, parts and service are easier to find. In real world riding, the difference in performance isn’t noticeable.

The Aerox is a better long ride bike, but the Aprilia is more fun in the twisties. Ultimately, it’s really dependent on your priorities and riding style.

I have owned both and I prefer the Aprilia. The build quality is a notch up, and the brakes are much better. Although the engine is smoother on the Aerox.

For most people, the Aerox is the smarter choice. It's more refined, has better resale value and is less temperamental. If style and uniqueness are what you’re after, then the Aprilia is for you.
