Let us compare the Sealion 7’s charging speed to the other EVs in real world?

For electric vehicle owners, charging speed is a critical factor, especially when taking long trips, or when you don’t have access to home charging options. Real world charging curves and speeds can differ quite a bit from what manufacturers will boast about in peak charging rates. The BYD Sealion 7 is said to offer competitive charging speed, but users seem to be divided on their experiences. Actual charging performance is a matter of charging battery temperature, state of charge and compatibility with charger. Some owners say they’ve seen consistently fast charging sessions, while others have had slower than expected sessions at public charging stations. The debate is also about how the Sealion 7’s charging capabilities compare to those of more popular rivals such as Tesla Model Y or Hyundai Ioniq 5, which are famous for their fast charging. Finally, the effectiveness of Sealion 7's battery preconditioning feature and its effect on charging speed in different conditions are discussed.

The Sealion 7’s charging speed has been pleasantly surprising. If I’m on a road trip, I can get from 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes at a 350kW charger.

But it’s not as consistent as my friend’s Tesla, and it’s fast. It sometimes hits the peak rate, but other times it's painfully slow for no good reason.

Battery preconditioning is the key. Setting the nav to a charger warms up the battery perfectly too, and charging speeds are always optimal.

The Sealion 7 is definitely slower compared to my old Hyundai Ioniq 5. It's still plenty fast for road trips, I only wait more then 20–25 minutes.

I’ve seen charging speed really tail off after 80%. In general, it’s not worth waiting unless you actually need the extra range.

It’s actually pretty good for the charging curve. In comparison to some competitors, it keeps the higher speeds for longer, which can be a big deal on long journeys.

The one annoying thing is that it doesn’t always play nice with some third party chargers. A couple of sessions have seen it charge at half the claimed rate.
