Is this the spiritual successor to the Royal Enfield Taurus?

by @sukhmandeepover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
A cult favourite in its own right, the Taurus was a diesel powered motorcycle that Royal Enfield introduced in the early 2000s but produced very little of. The Altius Scimitar 670 Diesel is now on the scene, and some bike fans are making a comparison. Both are tough diesel powered machines, meant for Indian conditions. Is the Scimitar really continuing the Taurus's legacy though? Now let us consider technological advancements, design philosophy and target market of both the bikes. Has the Scimitar solved the Taurus’s problems? Will it share the same problems that caused the Taurus's demise? Most importantly, will the Scimitar be able to win over diesel bike enthusiasts in the same way the Taurus did?

So who cares about spiritual successors? The real question is if the Scimitar can make its own legacy. It’s got potential, but it has to prove itself on Indian roads.

It's more an evolution than a successor. The Taurus learned from its mistakes and the Scimitar improved on the concept. This is the next step in diesel bike development.

The only thing they have in common is the diesel engine, let’s be real. The Scimitar is its own beast and we should celebrate it for what it is, not what it brings to mind.

Spiritual successor? Maybe. I do believe the Scimitar has the ability to be far more successful than the Taurus was. It's better tech and more versatile.

Both of you are missing the point. The Taurus was a commuter bike and the Scimitar is more of an adventure tourer. They are aimed at entirely different markets.

I disagree. The Taurus could have been the Scimitar with modern technology. It is carrying the torch for diesel bikes in India, just with better performance and efficiency.

The Taurus was in a league of its own, no way. It's that thumping diesel sound, and that sheer novelty, that can't be replicated. The Scimitar is cool, but it's not a proper successor.
