Is the Yamaha YZF R6 a good beginner bike?

Yamaha YZF R6 is capable of high performance as well as an aggressive riding position. Motorcycle enthusiasts love it, but there’s a debate as to whether it’s a good choice for new riders. For some, it is too powerful and responsive for beginners, but others say it can be exercised through training and self control. Things to think about are the bike’s power delivery, ergonomics, and the rider’s maturity and ability to resist the urge to go as fast as the bike will let you. It often discusses how one should learn to ride properly and if beginners should start on a less powerful bike to learn on.

Absolutely not. It’s a way too much bike for a beginner. You have to build skills on something smaller.

If you have incredible self control, you can do it, but why make it harder on yourself? Start on a 300 or a 500 and build up.

I’m on an R6, I’m fine. Just respect the bike, please don't be an idiot. The bike doesn’t matter, it’s all about the rider.

Bad idea. Ergonomically, it’s a poor choice for learning proper technique. Start getting something more forgiving.

Depends on the person. You can learn on an R6 if you’re mature and take it slow. Most people should probably start smaller, however.

No way. It’s just too aggressive for a new rider to be able to manage safely. Trying to tame it, you’ll develop bad habits.

I've seen people do it but they're the exception. It’s better for most to master the basics on something less intense.
