Is the Yamaha XSR300 worthy of the RD350 legacy?
The Yamaha RD350 is a special motorcycle in the history of motorcycling, a raw power, thrilling ride. Now, Yamaha is casting the XSR300 as a spiritual successor to this iconic bike. But just how well does a modern 300cc parallel twin match the legend of the two stroke? With retro styling cues and a promise of a classic charm combined with modern performance, the XSR300 is here. But purists insist there is nothing that can replace the 350 RD's high revving two stroke engine. Let’s get into this debate and see if the XSR300 can truly live up to the hype and carry on the RD350 legacy.
No way, man. The RD350 was a wild beast, it scared the crap out of you. It's just a cute little retro hipster bike.
I believe it’s not fair to compare them with each other. The RD350 is the spirit that the XSR300 is trying to capture, not replicate. It's a modern interpretation for riders today with today's regulations.
I'm excited about the XSR300 as an old RD350 owner. It won’t be the same, but it could bring a whole new generation to that raw, nimble riding experience we loved.
Legacy? What legacy? The RD350 was a death trap. Actually, the XSR300 will be rideable, and you won’t die. Progress, people!
You're all missing the point. An electric bike should be the real successor to the RD350. Instant torque, lightweight, and terrifying acceleration. That's the RD spirit.
I have ridden both, the XSR300 is fun but it is missing that special something which made the RD350 legendary. It's too refined, too predictable.
We’re all just getting a bit nostalgic. In every measurable way the XSR300 will be a better bike. Sometimes we have to let it go.
