Is the Yamaha R6 reliable for high mileage?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
The Yamaha R6 is a high performance machine, but there is still a lot of talk about the longevity and reliability of the bike when it's used a lot. R6s are ridden by some riders to tens of thousands of miles without problems, while some report more frequent maintenance needs. This is where riding style, maintenance habits, how much street vs track riding you do and more come into play. The debate rages about whether the R6's high revving engine is as reliable over time as other supersports, and if some model years are more reliable than others. Regular maintenance is often discussed in the conversation along with the cost of ownership over the years, and whether the R6 will make a good long term mileage bike.

An R6 will last a long time as long as you aren't constantly bouncing it off the rev limiter. They're overbuilt for street use.

The engine is good but electrical gremlins on higher mileage bikes have been an issue for me. Keep that in mind.

Although you can rely on them, the parts and labor are not cheap when something goes wrong. Factor that into ownership costs.

I have mine rock solid for 50k miles. All you have to do is change the oil religiously and don't abuse it.

The bike wouldn't hold me up, I'd be worried about the rider. Long rides are hard on the aggressive ergonomics.

They're reliable, but not low-maintenance. You have to keep on top of valve checks and other service intervals.

If you keep these things, they are as bulletproof as they can be. R6s with 100k miles plus are still running strong.
