Is the trade off in power and performance with the Toyota Vitz worth the extra fuel efficiency?

The Toyota Vitz has a reputation for being extremely fuel efficient, and as such is a favourite among budget conscious drivers and those concerned about their carbon footprint. But typically, this efficiency comes with a price of power and performance, particularly in smaller engine versions. For some drivers, the Vitz is underpowered for highway driving or when loaded. Is the trade-off worth it? But does the money saved on fuel make up for the lack of oomph? Or do the Vitz limitations really become a problem sometimes? We will see the pros and cons of what must be considered a compromise between fuel efficiency and performance in this popular hatchback.

Absolutely worth it! The Vitz has plenty of pep for city driving and I'm saving a ton on fuel. This is not a sports car, folks.

It's frustrating to be without power, nah. I’d rather have a thirsty car that can actually overtake on the highway without breaking a sweat.

It depends on your needs. It’s great for fuel efficiency for commuting and errands. If you do a lot of highway driving or live in a hilly part of the world, however, you might prefer something with more grunt.

It’s a good balance in the hybrid version. You don’t get the performance, but you don’t sacrifice the fuel efficiency, either. I think I’m getting the best of both worlds.

I think people exaggerate how much of a performance hit they are taking. It's not a powerhouse, but it is quite enough for its purpose – practical, efficient transportation.
