Is the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder's AWD option a true off roader?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
In some variants of the Hyryder the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) option is also available, a rarity in its segment. The feature has caused debate about the vehicle's off road capabilities. AWD cuts down on grip in different conditions, but that doesn’t mean a car is a hardcore off roader. Ground clearance, approach and departure angles, as well as overall vehicle design factors are all very important. The ongoing debate is focused on whether the Hyryder's AWD system is good enough for light off roading or is better used for additional stability on normal roads. It’s overkill for most urban users, say some, and for others, it’s a useful feature for occasional adventures.

It's a soft-roader at best. If you want true off road capability look elsewhere or be prepared to modify it extensively.

In monsoons, the AWD gives me peace of mind. Off roading is not the point, it’s about safety on regular roads.

I believe it's a waste of money. For most people, the 2WD version is fine and you save on fuel and maintenance costs.

It’s not a Fortuner, but it’s enough for the occasional camping trip or muddy road. Just know its limits.

Let’s be real, 99% of buyers won’t take it off road. The AWD is good for rainy conditions, that’s about it.

It’s more capable than you’d expect! I've used mine on some light trails and it worked surprisingly well.

Not even close. Slippery conditions are where the AWD proves useful, but without proper off road tech and ground clearance this isn't a serious trail vehicle.
