Is the Thar Roxx's wheel hop issue a daily driver killer?
Recent videos online have been going around showing the Mahindra Thar Roxx experiencing a wheel hop phenomenon when reversing at high RPMs. The concern this is causing to potential buyers and current owners about this vehicle being safe and reliable for daily use is another matter. Roxx's suspension setup and weight distribution is blamed for the wheel hop, a problem that some say is par for the course with this type of vehicle, others consider it to be a serious flaw. That debate extends to if this only happens in extreme situations that most drivers wouldn’t experience, or if it could also happen under normal driving conditions, especially in emergency situations where sudden reverse acceleration would be required.
It is not unsafe, it is a characteristic of the suspension. In normal driving you won’t come across this.
I think it's a serious issue. What if you need to back up in an emergency?
This is something Mahindra needs to address. It may not be unsafe, but it is certainly alarming for a 25 lakh vehicle.
People are overreacting. Many 4x4s do this and it isn't a safety issue if you drive sensibly.
