Is the Thar Roxx eating into sales of other Mahindra models such as the XUV700 and Scorpio?
The Mahindra Thar Roxx has hit the Indian automotive market with its combination of off road capabilities and modern features. This, however, has set off a debate on whether the Roxx is eating into the sales of other popular Mahindra models such as the XUV700 and Scorpio. With the Roxx’s pricing placed in the same bracket as these models, the improved comfort and features make it a more attractive option for those who before might have dismissed the Thar. While some argue that the Roxx appeals to a different customer base and won't make much difference to other models, others feel that it may change the way Mahindra's sales figures are arranged. But the Mahindra strategy debate is also extended to whether they actually compete with themselves in some of their segments.
Definitely. The Roxx is pulling away XUV700 and Scorpio buyers who want something different.
I don't think so. The Roxx, however, appeals to a different kind of buyer, who would never have looked at the XUV700 or Scorpio in the first place.
Although it will eat into some sales, it’s expanding Mahindra’s customer base overall.
Mahindra probably anticipated the cannibalization, but it’s real. Competing with yourself is better than losing customers to other brands.
XUV700 or Scorpio is too mainstream for the Roxx to make a dent. They are for different purposes.
