Is the Tata Sierra ICE a good alternative to the Harrier?

by CarEnthusiast7 months ago0 views0 comments

I've been researching SUVs in the ₹15-20 lakh range and I'm honestly confused between waiting for the Tata Sierra ICE version or just going ahead with the Harrier. I live in Pune and do a lot of highway driving to Mumbai and Goa, so I need something that's comfortable for long distances but also handles city traffic well. The Sierra's design really stands out to me, it's got that retro-modern vibe that's completely different from everything else on the road. But I keep wondering if I'm sacrificing too much by not choosing the Harrier.

From what I've read, the Sierra comes with a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine that's supposed to be quite impressive for its size. People are saying it's not as refined as the Harrier's 2.0L diesel, but it's getting close in terms of performance. My main concern is whether this smaller engine will feel underpowered on highways, especially when fully loaded with family and luggage. I'm also curious about the fuel efficiency difference since petrol prices are still pretty high. The Sierra is definitely positioned as a more affordable option, probably ₹2-3 lakh cheaper than a comparable Harrier variant, which is significant for my budget.

The thing is, everyone keeps telling me that the Harrier is still the king when it comes to luxury and ride quality. The cabin space, the features, the overall premium feel, it's apparently in a different league. I've sat in a Harrier at the showroom and yes, it does feel more upmarket. But is that worth the extra money when the Sierra offers such a unique design and seems like a solid budget-friendly alternative? I'm planning to keep this car for at least 7-8 years, so I want to make sure I'm not compromising on reliability or resale value. Has anyone driven both or have thoughts on which would be better for someone who values practicality over pure luxury?
