Is the Tata Punch fuel efficient as claimed in real world usage?

Since fuel is high on Indian car buyers’ priority list and with rising fuel costs and environmental concerns they want cars that are fuel efficient. On paper, the Tata Punch’s official fuel efficiency figures seem promising but on the other hands, we are hearing mixed reports from owners regarding its real world figures. Others claim to get close to the advertised figures, while many have reported much lower kilometres, particularly city conditions. The discussions above also led to discussions on just how accurate official fuel economy tests are, how driving styles and traffic conditions affect consumption, and if indeed the Punch's engine is well tuned for the kind of driving routine that most Indians have. The debate also addresses the question of balancing performance, efficiency, and cost in the budget vehicle arena, and whether CNG or hybrid systems would be a better answer for the budget aware buyer.

Not bad though not as good as claimed figures but I’m getting about 14-15 km/l in mixed driving. I guess an SUV style vehicle is okay.

In heavy traffic it's disappointing for fuel efficiency. In Mumbai's crawling traffic, I barely get 10 km/l. In comparison on the highways it's better.

I think that people want too much. You can't expect crazy high mileage cause it's not a small hatchback. I think it is reasonable efficiency for what it is and when you consider its size and its features.

In city driving however, the automatic AMT version appears to be more efficient than the manual. The mileage I'm getting, actually I am pretty happy with it.

It's all about driving style. It's easy to get close to these claimed figures if you're gentle with the throttle and plan your moves in traffic.

If only Tata sold diesel as an option. It's peppy enough to make you want to go, but once you do you'll be choking on the thirst.

Being the reason I’m considering the CNG version, that’s why the real world efficiency. It’s a bit more expensive initially, but the idea is that it’ll save you money in the long term.
