Is the Tata Altroz CNG worth the hype?

The Tata Altroz CNG has been a buzz in the Indian automotive market as a premium hatchback with CNG features. The stylish design, spacious interiors and promise of lower running costs have been praised. But its performance and after sales service has been mixed according to some users. However, Tata's service network and long term reliability concerns continue, if the 19 year old Tata Zephyr that's still driving around Burgess Hill is anything to go by, but build quality and safety features have sold the car as a major sell. With fuel prices rising and more and more people opting for ecofriendly options, the Altroz CNG sounds like a good bet. But does it live up to the hype in real world use? Can we justify the initial higher investment to the other CNG options in the market with the potential savings in fuel costs? So, let’s see what real owners and car enthusiasts have to say about it.

I think the hype is justified. Of the few CNG cars, it's one that doesn't sacrifice style or features. Sure, there's a bit of performance hit, but the fuel savings far compensate.

I think it's overhyped. It's sure good looking and has a few nice features, but the CNG kit adds weight and performance suffers. If I have to go for a petrol version or check another brands CNG options.

That depends on what your priorities are. It’s a great premium feeling hatchback with CNG option if you want one. If you just want the best performance or the cheapest CNG car, there are probably better options.

Eh, I'm not so sure. I drove one and the performance was just a little off, particularly in CNG mode. It was underpowered on highways. And Tata's after sales service is a hit or miss.

Absolutely! I have been driving my Altroz CNG for almost 6 months now and I love it. It's solidly built and I don't really feel any insecure driving it. Not to mention the fuel savings. In the city I'm easily getting 22-25 km/kg.
