Is the Royal Enfield Sherpa 350 nothing more than a rebadged Classic 350 or does it offer something new with it?
Like the Meteor 350 and Hunter 350 which have the same engine as the Classic 350, Royal Enfield has a history of making different versions of the same model. The upcoming Sherpa 350 has people wondering if it just another spin on the Classic or if it is introducing some fresh ideas into the lineup. There are some who believe that the Sherpa is Royal Enfield's attempt to nibble at another segment of riders, perhaps those looking for a more adventure focused bike, but not ready to take the Himalayan step up. Some reckon it's a modern interpretation of the original Sherpa from the 1960s, the retro styling merged with updated technology. It’s also a debate about whether Royal Enfield is being safe and sticking to the familiar or if they are actually innovating with this new model.
No, the Sherpa 350 isn’t a rebadged Classic. As far as I can tell, it has its own frame and styling. It shares some parts bin stuff, sure, but that’s just smart manufacturing.
I think it's a bit of both. It's got the same 350cc engine, but it looks more adventure focused in the ergonomics and overall design. RE is trying to fill the gap between the Hunter and the Himalayan, it’s like.
Honestly, I'm skeptical. As with RE, there’s a tendency to recycle designs. I don’t see any real innovation until then, I’m gonna assume it’s just another variant to milk the 350cc platform.
You guys are not getting it. With modern tech, the Sherpa is bringing back a classic name. It’s not about being completely new, it’s about respecting RE’s heritage and moving forward.
I think RE made a smart move. It’s a bike for people who want the reliability of a Classic but with more versatility. It isn’t groundbreaking, but that’s fine.
Let's be real, it's probably 30 new stuff and 70% Classic 350. However, that 30% could swing it in terms of how it rides, and how it feels. Until I can test ride one I’m reserving judgement.
We are underestimating RE here, I think. Perhaps they're the way they test new ideas before putting them into higher end models. The devil's in the details, but it might look similar.
