Is the Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 just a marketing gimmick or is it actually an off road capable machine?
Having expanded their 650cc lineup, the Scrambler 650 appears to be the next. Though it appears rugged and ready for adventure, a few enthusiasts are skeptical of how well it can actually do off road. It appears the bike is based on the Interceptor 650 platform, which is road biased. The questions arise that RE has made any major changes to make it a true scrambler or it’s just a cosmetic makeover to ride on the adventure bike trend. One should also consider the factors that will help an SUV or people mover handle fluidly off the asphalt such as suspension travel, ground clearance, tire choice and weight distribution. The Himalayan has also been a part of RE’s history, and the reliability issues that the bike faced with its early iterations have left some potential buyers skeptical about the Scrambler 650’s performance on challenging terrains.
And it’s probably gonna be more capable than we think. RE's been doing a lot more lately.
At best, it's a street scrambler. This thing isn't going rock crawling.
I'm sure it'll be a good 80/20 bike, just good on the road and ok light trails.
Who cares if it can climb Everest as long as it looks cool and sounds good?
RE might surprise us. Since the early Himalayan days, they've learned a lot.
That’s for sure, it’ll be perfect for posing at hipster cafes.
If anything, it will be a good base to customize.
