Is the Royal Enfield Scrambler 450 just a Himalayan 450 in a new suit?

Sharing the same 452cc liquid cooled engine and many components with the Himalayan 450, some believe that the Royal Enfield Scrambler 450 is not an actual new model. Though both bikes are based on the same platform, the Scrambler is more road focussed and urban friendly than the Himalayan meant for the offroad. This has prompted debate about whether these differences are large enough to warrant a separate model or whether it’s merely a marketing play to attract to different rider demographics. According to some, ergonomics, styling and minor suspension and gearing tweaks all add up to noticeably different riding experience, whereas others are of the position that theirs is merely a superficial makeover. The conversation also revolves around the value proposition that the Scrambler 450 brings to the table and if it really brings enough unique features to differentiate from the rest of RE’s lineup.

It’s definitely more than a reskin. The whole feel of the bike is totally different because the ergonomics and riding position are completely different.

It's the same bike, just with some fancy new plastics, come on. RE is just trying to squeeze all they can out of the 450 platform.

I've ridden both and they are very different. In city traffic, the Scrambler is much more nimble.

It's a smart move by RE. This gives more options for buyers because not everyone wants a full on ADV bike.

They are there, but I'm not so sure they're enough to justify the price. You could probably mod a Himalayan to be pretty similar.

I can tell you as a Himalayan owner that the Scrambler feels like a whole different beast. The small changes really do add up.

It's more of a lifestyle than that. If you want to look like you've got some off road capability, but don't want the actual off road capability, the Scrambler is for you.
