Is the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 really worth all the hype or is it just another overhyped Royal Enfield?

Since its launch, the Hunter 350 has been in the news, with Royal Enfield marketing it as a modern, urban friendly bike. Owners have responded mixed, with many praising its nimble handling others saying it has quality issues. New riders have flocked to the bike as a more affordable, lighter RE, but it's also been criticized for possibly diluting the heritage of the brand. It’s either a necessary evolution to stay relevant for RE, or it’s straying too far from what makes an Enfield an Enfield, according to some. The debate over the Hunter 350 is, however, often a reflection of wider discussions around brand identity, build quality and the direction of the Indian motorcycle market.

I am a long time RE fan, and so I was a bit skeptical at first. I get it now, though, after riding my friend's Hunter. It’s not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction for the brand. If you understand what RE is doing here, the hype is justified.

People are missing the point, I think. He's not trying to be a Classic or a Bullet. RE is trying to catch the younger riders and from what I can see, it's working. Not taking itself too seriously, it's a fun little bike.

It's a mixed bag. The Hunter is a great new rider bike or for riders who want a modern RE experience. If you're looking for the classic Enfield feel, you might be disappointed, however. Some people think it’s worth the hype, others don’t.

Overhyped, definitely. I had a test ride on one and was pretty underwhelmed. The build quality is a question, it feels cheap in comparison to other REs. They seem to have cut too many corners to enable that price point.

It’s been a blast, I’ve had my Hunter for about 6 months now. It's not your typical thumper, but that's kinda the point. It’s light, nimble, and great for city riding. If you’re looking for something different from RE, then the hype is justified.
