Is the Royal Enfield Classic 250 a cash grab or a real innovation?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views5 answers
The last few years have been a whirlwind for Royal Enfield, a constant stream of new models and variants. It appears to sit between their entry level 350cc bikes and their more powerful 650cc twins. A potentially more accessible Classic has some enthusiasts excited, but others question whether we really need one more model in what is already a crowded lineup. Some argue that there is nothing special about this new model or it is just Royal Enfield filling every possible market niche. There are many things that motorcycle fans (and perhaps you) love and hate about the Classic 250's performance, pricing and target audience.

And I'm holding off judgment until I see the specs and price. If priced right and it performs well, it could be a game changer for RE.

It's probably both. They’re a business after all, but they’re also innovating. But the 250cc engine could also be a great platform for future models.

I'm excited, cash grab or not. A Classic look with (hopefully) better fuel economy and a lower price point? Sign me up!

I disagree. In India, the 250cc segment actually is a pretty popular segment and RE was missing out on that. For those new riders who find the 350 too intimidating, this could be a great entry point.

It's definitely a cash grab. At this point RE is just milking the Classic name. They already have the Hunter and Bullet in the lower cc range. What's next, a Classic 150?
