Is the Royal Enfield Bullet Trials 350 a real off roader or just a cosmetic makeover?

The Bullet Trials 350 was sold as a tribute to Royal Enfield’s success in trials competitions, including design cues such as a raised rear fender, upswept exhaust and dual purpose tires. But it is based on the standard Bullet 350 chassis and engine. But this has provoked debates among enthusiasts about whether it's truly capable off road or is just a fashion statement. Others argue that its heritage inspired looks don't translate into real off road prowess, but it turns out that it is surprisingly capable when taken off the tarmac. The limited production run combined with the quirky styling have made this a subject of interest for Royal Enfield collectors and adventure riding enthusiasts, debating the form versus function of motorcycle design.

It’s definitely more show than go. The Trials 350, essentially, is a Bullet with a few off road inspired bits dressed up. It’s cool, but it can’t handle serious trails like a true dirt bike.

I've taken mine on some light off road trails and it actually works better than you'd expect. The dual purpose tires, and upswept exhaust, make a difference. It’s not an enduro but it’s capable enough for mild adventures.

This is a style piece, let’s be real. Royal Enfield knew exactly what they were getting into – cashing in on the retro off road look without actually engineering an actual off roader. For posers who want to look adventurous at the coffee shop.

I believe it finds a good balance. This bike has enough off road cred to take on dirt roads and light trails, but is comfortable enough for daily riding. Not every one needs a hardcore dirt bike and the Trials fills that niche for casual adventurers.

I'd say as an owner it's 70% road bike, 30% off roader. The only thing I wouldn't do is take it on anything crazy because it's not meant for that — it's a great bike for exploring back roads and gravel pathways but when I take it to steep hills just out of curiosity it becomes a bit more difficult. They definitely don't offer much in the way of off road performance, but that's part of its charm.
