Is the rotating infotainment screen on the BYD Atto 3 a game changer or a gimmick?

The BYD Atto 3 also has a special 12.8 inch rotating infotainment screen that can rotate between portrait and landscape modes. The feature has come in for notice and mixed reactions from reviewers and owners. It's versatile, some say, with a cool factor that others doubt, and its practicality and durability are questioned. This feature has created some interesting debate about automotive design choices and the balance between innovation and functionality. In addition, it also addresses broader discussions about in car technology and how it affects the driving experience. Is this rotating screen actually making the usability better, or is it just marketing? How well does it work in comparison to a traditional fixed screen? What does this feature of BYD car design and technology integration say?

I’m warming to the rotating screen. I first assumed it was just for show, but I've used it for various other situations. Now, while I am definitely glad that they made the rotation feature, I kind of wish that they had put more effort into making the UI and responsiveness of the system better.

It’s a bit of both, I think - a gimmick that is actually useful. It's not necessary, but it does help the Atto 3 stand out among numerous rival products. It also demonstrates that BYD is prepared to experiment and innovate.

As a tech enthusiast, I like BYD thinking out of the box. I start thinking, however, if this functionality brings in too much complexity, more potential for failure. I’d rather have a rock solid, responsive interface than a fancy rotating screen.

I actually love the rotating screen! For different apps it's super handy - I use portrait mode for navigation and landscape for music or when passengers want to watch videos. It's not a gimmick; it really does add versatility to the infotainment system.

It’s a definitely cool party trick, but I’m not sure how useful it actually is in day to day driving. I’ve had my Atto 3 for a few months now and I almost never rotate the screen. I like to show off to friends, but I’m concerned about the longevity of the mechanism.
