Is the RC213V-S a taste of things to come in superbikes or just an expensive novelty?

The Honda RC213V-S is the crème de la crème of motorcycle engineering, and it puts MotoGP technology on the streets. But with its extreme price point and limited production run, it’s hard to see how it's relevant to the rest of the motorcycle market. Others say it’s a testbed for future technologies that will eventually seep down into more affordable models, just as Formula 1 innovations find their way into road cars. Some regard it as a bit of a marketing exercise or a collector’s item with little practical bearing on future motorcycle development. But the bike's hand-built engine and heavy use of exotic materials may not be feasible for mass production. In addition to the car itself, it also sparks a debate on the role that ultra high-end vehicles play in advancing innovation and whether the ultra high-end cars truly help the average guy in the long term, although.

It's definitely a look at the future. After a decade, a lot of that tech will be in regular production bikes.

Pure novelty. Bikes are the future, and it's not six-figure race replicas; it's in electrification and accessibility.

It's both. This particular bike is a halo product for Honda, but the tech will trickle down.

The RC213V S is trapped in the past. Connected bikes with alternative powertrains are the future.

It's a proof of concept. Even if this exact bike isn't the future, Honda's showing what they can do.

Expensive novelty for sure. The difference between race and street bikes is only widening.

It forces innovation in more accessible products because it’s pushing what’s possible.

The bike itself isn’t where the real impact lies, but in the manufacturing techniques that went into building it.
