Is the Pulsar N160 a good starter bike for beginners?

For new riders, the choice of a first motorcycle is important; as the bike must be balanced on ease of handling, power delivery, safety features, and maintenance requirements. The Pulsar N160 is proposed as an option for beginners with its moderate power output and modern features. But there are differing opinions on whether it's the right characteristics for those just getting into riding. Though some say it may be too powerful for a newbie, others say it is just the right balance for learning. When deciding if a bike is suitable for new riders, the bike’s weight, seating position and technology features all come into play. There also seems to be debate about whether a less powerful bike or a bike of a different style wouldn't be a better option for beginners.

Absolutely! The N160 is perfect for beginners. Not too powerful to be intimidating, but there is enough grunt to keep you interested as you get better. The dual channel ABS option is also great for building confidence, plus.

I disagree. Even 160cc can be too much for a true beginner. One would better start with something like a 125cc bike. It’s more suited for someone with a bit of riding experience.

It depends on the beginner. The N160 is more than fine if you are a cautious learner. If you’re the type to get excited easily, it might be too tempting to push beyond your skills.

If I were an MSF instructor, I’d say the N160 is a good suggestion but not the best. It’s upright seating position and manageable power are good, but I wish it were a bit lighter for easier low speed maneuvers.

You all fail to remember the maintenance aspect. There are a lot of things I love about the N160, but one of the best is that it's a pretty reliable and easy to maintain bike (which is important for a beginner who might not know much about bike upkeep).

I began on an N160 and I think it was great. It’s predictable and forgiving of mistakes. All you have to do is make sure you start with the single channel ABS version (cheaper and less intimidating).

Most beginners don’t just want something that works, they want something that looks cool as well. The N160 that isn't too extreme. Starting out is a little bit of a confidence booster.
