Is the Pulsar 250F a good choice for long distance touring versus dedicated tourers?

The Pulsar 250F is considered to be a 'sports tourer', in other words, a halfway house between the pure sport bike and the dedicated tourer. The positioning of the bike has caused debates on its ability to perform long rides. It’s got decent wind protection for long rides, says some riders, and the ergonomics are comfy. Others say that it's missing features you'd find on more expensive touring bikes, such as a larger fuel tank or luggage mounting points, or an adjustable windscreen. Continuing the bike's performance on highways and twisty mountain roads is another area of discussion with some saying it is unstable and some feeling the power delivery is good. Long ride fuel efficiency and the comfort of the stock seat for many hours are also often debated. Owners love to talk about the modifications they have made to the bike to make it more touring capable, and there is always a discussion about the best upgrades for long distance riding.

It's not as touring capable as you’d think. It won't have all the bells and whistles of a full tourer.

Smooth enough for long rides, but wish it had a 6th for highway cruising.

I’ve done a couple of 500+ km days on mine. It’s just about how to break in that seat and take some regular stops.

It’s a great intro to sport touring. It's not as plush as a Goldwing, but much cheaper and it still does the job.

A real drawback is the lack of luggage options. Bungee cords and backpacks are something you have to get creative with.

I love it for mixed touring. Comfortable on highways but still fun in the twisties.

With some mods like a taller windscreen and better seat you can hang with the big tourers no problem.

Weekend trips are fine, but I wouldn't want to do cross country on it. The small tank is a pain.

It's surprisingly capable for touring. I did a 1000 km trip and was much more comfortable than I expected.
