Is the Nissan Sylphy really that bad with the CVT?
Like most Nissan models, the Nissan Sylphy is outfitted with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Nissan’s CVTs have been the subject of much debate online as to whether they are reliable and perform. Some people say they’re trouble free if maintained properly, others say they’re ticking time bombs. The conversation often gets heated, with owners talking about everything from easy cruising to failed transmissions. It appears model year, maintenance history, and driving habits all have some impact on CVT life. As a result, there has been conflicting advice about whether the Sylphy is a good used car buy or a money pit. In fact, the controversy over Nissan CVT has even produced memes and jokes about Nissan CVT in automobile aficionados’ community.
I've had my 2015 Sylphy for 5yrs now and the CVT is smooth as butter. No issues whatsoever. A lot of the hate is overblown, I think.
