Is the new design of Dzire too 'Audi-like' for its own good?

The new Maruti Dzire has garnered attention not only for its features, but also the new exterior design. The new Dzire’s front fascia and grille design has drawn similarities from some Audi models, most notably in the A4 range, noted many observers. This has thrown open a debate on design originality in the budget car segment and whether Maruti is pushing the Dzire too hard to look premium. Some would say that it makes the Dzire look upmarket and could make it appeal to more customers. Some fear that it could appear pretentious, or uncharacteristic of a car in this segment. But there's also talk about the general trend of budget cars borrowing design language from luxury brands and whether that's a good thing for the industry.

I love it! Why must affordable cars not look good? So what's the harm if it gives Dzire owners a little extra pride?

It's trying too hard. Instead, the Dzire should be a practical, no nonsense car that doesn't dress up.

This could backfire. Maruti might soon start hearing people start calling it the 'poor man's Audi' and that's not a great image.

I think it's clever. That makes the car look more expensive than it is, and it's good for resale value.

I'm fine with it as long as it's not a direct copy. The auto industry inspires itself all the time.

It's a bit much. I liked it better when Dzire had its own identity in the market.

I'm all for it if the build quality is up to the looks. If it's not just a fancy facade on a budget car, it'll be a disappointment.
