Is the Maruti Tour V (O) a glorified taxi or a practical family car?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views5 answers
Maruti Tour V (O) has been a long time player in the taxi and fleet market for its reliability and low running costs. But recently, with some upgrades and improvements, some argue it could work as a valid option for budget conscious families who need a no frills, spacious vehicle. With a boxy design that gives plenty of headroom and legroom, the car’s tried and tested mechanicals should mean hassle free ownership. However, does its basic features and taxi image stand in the way of becoming a serious contender in the personal vehicle segment? The Tour V (O) has a stigma to shake off, that of being a commercial vehicle, so let's see if it can appeal to private buyers looking for an affordable, practical family car.

The Tour V (O) is stuck in the past, let's be real. Families need better safety and features. If Maruti wants to attract private buyers, it has to seriously upgrade it. For now, it’s best left for commercial use.

I own one and can say it’s surprisingly practical for family use. We had purchased it for our catering business but also use it for family trips. It's not luxurious, but it's reliable and for the price the space is unbeatable.

It depends on your priorities, I think. If you only require a simple, roomy car from time to time, and don’t mind not having any frills, the Tour V (O) may suit. I would say though that for daily family use you may want to spend a bit more for something with better safety features and comfort.

It's still just a glorified taxi, no way. The Tour V (O) lacks the creature comforts and basic safety features modern family cars should have. That doesn't mean that it's a good family option because it's cheap. For a bit more money there are much better alternatives in the market.

Definitely more than a taxi! In fact, if you’re a large family on a budget, the Tour V (O) is a great option. You get tons of space, decent fuel efficiency and Maruti's reliability. It's not fancy, but it does the job and it doesn't break the bank.
