Is the Maruti Tour S STD just a stripped down Dzire for taxi fleets?

The Maruti Tour S STD is a basic version of the Dzire but specifically for commercial use. It does not have many of the features that come with the regular Dzire such as power windows, music system and some safety features. The stripped down approach has sparked debate over whether Maruti is making a smart business move, or if it’s sacrificing quality and safety for profit. Some say it’s a practical solution for taxi operators looking for an affordable fuel efficient option, and others say it’s unfair to offer a lower spec version for commercial use. Most of the discussion revolves around the ethics of distinguishing between private and commercial vehicles in terms of features and safety standards.

It's not just stripped down, it's stripped down for fleet use. High mileage use means less fancy stuff: lower maintenance costs, greater reliability.

I think it's a cynical move on Maruti's part to cut corners and make as much as possible. All variants should have the same safety features.

I work as a taxi driver so the Tour S STD is nice. It’s affordable, and it does the job without all the frills passengers don’t care about in the first place.

That's a smart business strategy. Maruti is catering to the needs of taxi operators better than the needs of private owners.

In fact, the Tour S STD is a blessing in disguise. It lowers taxi fares, which benefits the common man. Not everyone who commutes every day needs a fancy ride.
