Is the KTM Duke 790 a good beginner bike?
The KTM Duke 790’s sleek design and impressive specs have attracted many new riders, but are they suitable for the new riders? Others say its electronics and riding modes make it simple enough to ride, while some believe its power and advanced features are too much for novices to control safely. Size, maturity, and prior experience with high-performance vehicles are factors. It's also a question of whether beginning on a less powerful bike gives new riders the opportunity to build the fundamental skills before graduating to something like the 790. Another consideration is cost; dropping a new Duke 790 would be harder financially than a used smaller bike.
No way, the 790 is too much bike for a beginner. Work your way up from a 390.
The 790 was fine, so I started there. You just use the rain mode and be careful with the throttle. It's pretty forgiving in the electronics.

Bad idea. You don’t want to be managing a powerful bike; you want to be developing skills. Upgrade later with a 390 or Z400.
As a beginner, I rode a friend's 790, and it was terrifying. For someone who was still learning the basics, way too much power.
It's all about the rider. If you’re coming from fast cars and have good judgment, the 790 could work. It's a big risk for most new riders, though.
But the 790 is an awesome bike and overkill for a beginner. Starting on something in the 300-400cc range will be more fun, and you’ll learn more.
If you can afford it, I say go for it. The 790 has enough modes and customization that you can grow with it as you get better.
