Is the KTM 790 Duke’s little brother, the Svartpilen 801, worth the premium over it?
The Svartpilen 801 shares a lot with the KTM 790 Duke, including the 799cc parallel twin engine and many components, but it sports a more premium neo-retro design and is expected to be priced much higher. The price is justified, some say, by the Svartpilen's unique styling and more expensive components, while others say it's not worth the extra dough when it's essentially a restyled KTM. The question at hand is whether the Svartpilen's looks and cachet of brand are worth paying more for performance that's on par. While the build quality, features and riding experience also plays a part, this is more of an apples and oranges comparison across the KTM group of bikes.
Absolutely worth it. Stunning design and it turns heads everywhere. You’re getting exclusivity and style that the Duke can’t match.
No way. That's just a fancy Duke at a higher price. If you want performance, save your money and get the KTM.
Depends on what you value. If you care about looks a lot, go Svartpilen. The Duke is the better deal if it's pure performance.
In ride quality, the premium components of the Svartpilen do make a real difference. The Duke feels more refined than this.
If you can afford it, I’d say it’s worth it. The Svartpilen is that conversation starter and has that cool factor the Duke doesn’t have.
Neither. If you can’t afford a new bike, get a used Triumph Street Triple R and you have the best of both worlds: style and performance.
Something that will help the Svartpilen hold its value is its uniqueness. One thing to think about if you think you’ll sell.
