Is the Kia Clavis's reported panoramic sunroof a feature that will actually be used or just a gimmick for the Indian market?
According to rumors, the Kia Clavis will sport a panoramic sunroof, which is fast gaining popularity in the Indian car market. Sunroofs, especially large panoramic ones, are generally considered a premium feature that helps perceived value of vehicle, but also a question mark over its practicality in Indian climate. On one hand, some argue that the intense heat and sun makes sunroofs a luxury impossible to use much of the year; on the other hand, they serve as a desirable feature that boosts the feeling of space and luxury of the vehicle. In this question, we analyze the decision of Kia including a panoramic sunroof in the Clavis if it was a clever one to satisfy market needs or whether the inclusion of such feature is simply wasteful and could compromise the selling price, as well as efficiency of the car.

The real question is, how much is it gonna add to the cost? Of course, if it bumps up the price too much, it may not be worth it for many buyers.

In fact I use my sunroof a lot, even in summer. When you first get in a hot car, it's great for ventilation. I think it's a smart addition.

It's all about the flex. The people want to show off and a big sunroof is an easy way to make your car look more premium.

I care more about long term reliability. Over time, panoramic sunroofs have been known to leak and rattle.

So, why not if it doesn’t compromise on headroom? It's a nice to have, that doesn't hurt anyone.

I think its great for evening drives and cooler months. And it makes the interior seem more spacious. It doesn't have to be 100% practical.

In our climate? No way. And it’s just going to make the AC work harder, and use more fuel.

People love it, but it’s totally a gimmick. Even if most owners barely use it, I bet it’ll be a big selling point.
