Is the Kia Clavis really just a Sonet, but taller, or does it introduce something new?

Kia Clavis is creating buzz as Kia's upcoming compact SUV, higher than the Sonet. Like its smaller sibling, it has some things in common, although there’s some back and forth as to whether it’s really bringing something new to the table or just jumping on the 'tall boy' bandwagon. Some say it's a smart move to fill a gap in Kia's lineup, others question if it's too close to existing options. It’s boxy, it’s got a focus on rear seat space, but is that enough to make it exist? So, let’s dive into the question if the Clavis is a game changer or just another player in a crowded segment.

The real test will be the pricing. It can't be too close to the Sonet, or it will cannibalize sales. So, if it’s too expensive, people might as well go for the Seltos. That's the sweet spot that Kia needs to nail.

I believe the Clavis does an important job. It’s for people who like Sonet, but need more interior space. Not everyone needs a Seltos just to get more room.

The boxy design is a very differentiator. It’s the Kia Soul vibes, and if they lean into that quirky aesthetic it could be really cool. That could set it apart from a sea of compact SUVs that all look the same.

I'm not convinced. The feeling is that Kia is simply milking the compact SUV trend by offering slight variations of the same theme. One brand needs how many small SUVs?

It’s far from being just a taller Sonet. With an emphasis on rear seat space and comfort, the Clavis seems to be aimed at a different crowd. It’s a smart move in the Indian market where backseat passengers are often prioritised.
