Is the Jaunty 3W really wheelchair accessible?

by Sukhmandeep Kaurover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
Jaunty-3W is marketed as a mobility solution for the elderly and disabled but at the same time raises questions regarding its practicality and safety. Some argue that its self balancing feature may not be the best for those lacking an abundance of mobility, however others praise it. It also raises questions about whether vehicles like this are really needed, or whether making public spaces more accessible would be preferable. There are questions of the vehicle's stability, its ease of use and if it provides enough support for users who have a wide range of different disabilities. In addition, for some people, the Jaunty-3W can actually segregate elderly and disabled people from society rather than to integrate them with the society.

I’m an occupational therapist with mixed feelings. Some patients find it intimidating or difficult to use, but it’s great for others.

It’s a brilliant self balancing feature for people who struggle with balance. It’s not perfect, but it’s a massive improvement over what we’ve had before.

Instead, I’d like to see investment in making public spaces more accessible. These specialized vehicles are a band aid solution.

He loves his Jaunty-3W! My grandpa. 'However, it is much easier to handle than a traditional mobility scooter,' he says.

I'm just not sure how safe it would be on busy streets. Perhaps it’s more suitable for controlled environments, such as malls or parks.

I'm not convinced. The narrow seat and lack of adjustable features feel limiting for different body types and disabilities.

I’m a person with a disabled parent, and I think the Jaunty-3W is a game changer. It allows those who have trouble with mobility to have their independence back.
