Is the Hyundai Tucson’s ADAS system a game changer or just another over hyped feature?
All Hyundai Tucsons include a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, as well as lane keeping assist. Hyundai is heavy on marketing these features as a selling point, especially on the Tucson. But opinions on whether or not these systems are effective and useful range from laudatory to scathing among owners and reviewers. Others praise the ADAS features, saying the features have helped ease the strains of their daily commutes and may even have made driving a bit safer, but some find them intrusive or unreliable. Some argue too that these systems encourage safer driving but encourage too much reliance on technology. And some users also report inconsistent performance across different driving conditions. We discuss whether Tucson’s ADAS features actually add to the driving experience and safety, or if they are just a marketing gimmick not up to the hype in real world use.
The ADAS features on the Tucson are awesome! Adaptive cruise control makes highway driving much less stressful. It's not perfect to look at but it sure makes the commute more enjoyable.
To be honest, I am more annoyed by the lane keeping assist than I am helped by it. It’s always beeping at me or nudging the wheel. Most of the time I end up turning it off.
I was a skeptic at first, but I’ve come to enjoy the ADAS features. They are not a replacement for attentive driving, but they do give you a little bit more peace of mind.
My Tucson’s ADAS works well on well marked highways, but it gets confused on rural roads or in bad weather. It’s a nice feature to have, but I don’t think it’s a game changer.
I'm concerned people become too dependent on technology. I’ve seen drivers pay less attention because they believe the car will take care of everything. It's a bit concerning.
The selling point for me was the ADAS features. While they’re not perfect, they’re continuing to improve with software updates. I feel like I’m steering a car from the future.
