Is the Hyundai Exter really an SUV or just a tall hatchback?
The company has marketed Hyundai Exter as a 'Real SUV', but there has been a lot of debate about whether it really deserves the tag. Others say its city friendly design and compact size make it more of a tall hatchback than a real SUV. Others say it's because of its higher ground clearance and SUV like styling cues. That has led to discussions about what an SUV really is in today's market, particularly in the compact segment. It also explores if the SUV label is really more about marketing than vehicle capability, and how important the label is to buyers in this segment.
It's definitely a tall hatchback. It's not an SUV by slapping some plastic cladding and raising the ride height.
I'd say it's an SUV. What people want in an SUV is the higher seating position and ground clearance it has. Not all SUVs need to be an enormous off roader.
It’s a crossover, which is what most ‘SUVs’ are these days anyway. It's getting really blurry what the lines are between categories.
Who cares what you call it? That's practical for city use and that's what matters. These are just marketing labels anyway.
I would argue that it's a micro-SUV. In a compact package, it's got SUV styling, which is great for Indian roads.
