Is the Hyundai Alcazar an overpriced Creta with extra seats?
The Alcazar has a lot in common with its popular sibling, the Creta. It has the same design language, it's built on the same platform, and it has many of the same features. However, Hyundai markets it as a more premium offering with a third row of seats, and a few extra bells and whistles. And this has resulted in car enthusiast debates on whether the Alcazar is really worth its higher price point over the Creta. Some will say the extra space and features justify the price premium, while others will say it's nothing more than a stretched Creta with not enough differentiation to command the price gap. It also delves into the larger topic of value proposition in the compact SUV segment and how manufacturers provide differentiation for models based on the same platform.
It’s way more than just a Creta with extra seats. The Alcazar gets longer wheelbase, different suspension tuning and some unique features like the 360 degree camera. Plus, the third row, while not very capacious, makes a lot of sense for families.
Overpriced? Absolutely. Essentially, what you’re paying a hefty premium for is a stretched Creta with a cramped third row. It’s not that the extra features don’t justify the price jump, but it is simply that for the same money you can get a proper 7 seater like the Tata Safari.
It really depends on what your needs are. If you don’t need those extra seats all the time, and want a slightly more premium feel than the Creta, the Alcazar makes sense. If you're going to always use it as a 5 seater then the Creta is the sensible choice and you save some money too.
I’d say, as an Alcazar owner, it’s worth it. The feel is more upmarket with features like extra ventilated seats and wireless charging and the ride quality feels way better than that of the Creta. For small families that need occasional 7 seat capability but don’t want the full size SUV, it’s perfect.
Come on, it’s a marketing gimmick. Hyundai was riding on the success of Creta, and wanted to milk it further. The Alcazar is just a way to give more money for a car that is essentially the same with little changes. You’re buying more the Hyundai badge than anything else.
