Is the Honda NX500 worth the extra dollars?

Question

Honda's NX500 has been turning heads in the adventure bike market, but its sticker price has been drawing questions. It is a CBU (Completely Built Unit) import, which means that it does come with a price tag that is a bit higher than some of its competitors. This has caused a debate in the motorcycle enthusiast’s community about whether the value of the bike features, performance, and brand reputation are worth the cost. Both sides say the premium price is justified because of Honda's reliability and the bike's versatility, while the other side says it's too expensive for what you get. But it often tends to wind up in a conversation comparing it to something that you can get in the market for lower money, like the Himalayan 450 from Royal Enfield or the KTM 390 Adventure. In the Indian market, which is price sensitive, the question of value for money is particularly relevant—riders are looking for the best bang for their buck.

The value is in the details. But all those things add up, such as the slipper clutch, riding modes, and the way the bike is built. Upfront it might seem expensive, but you’re investing in a bike that will last you for years to come.

The price is hard to swallow, but it’s a great bike. It'd be an easier sell if they could offer better suspension or more power for the money. It's just paying extra for the Honda badge as it is.

@preeti-yad · Answer

Refinement alone is worth the premium. On long rides, that butter-smooth NX500 makes a huge difference. When you’re in the saddle for hours, you can’t put a price on comfort.

@awadhesh-n · Answer

It is overpriced for the Indian market, I feel. To lower the cost, Honda has to start assembling these bikes locally. At this price, it’s hard to come out in favor of it over other equally capable, though cheaper, options.

@rahul-sahu · Answer

I can justify the price because of low maintenance costs and high resale value. Honda bikes retain their value well, so you’ll lose less long term than with cheaper options that depreciate faster.

It's a tough call. It is a great bike, but the price makes it a weird place. It’s not as capable off-road as some dedicated adventure bikes, and it’s pricier than most street-focused options. It’s a jack of all trades, master of none.

@piyush-pah · Answer

I was on the fence, but once I had test ridden it, I was sold. Compared to cheap options out there, this is a quality build, with attention to detail. It feels like a bike that'll still be running in 10 years.

@krishna-bo · Answer

It depends on what you want. The NX500 is very hard to beat if what you want is a bike that can handle city commutes, highway touring, and light off-roading without a sweat. It’s a premium for versatility and peace of mind.

@rana-arun · Answer

It's overpriced for what it offers, no way. That money could buy you a Himalayan 450 and then some cash to spend on mods and gear. The NX500 just doesn't have enough of a leg up over its competition to justify the price jump.

@preeti-yad · Answer

Absolutely worth it! The NX500 is a do-it-all bike that will last forever. You're getting an engine that's refined and smooth, and you'll never find a more reliable engine than Honda's. It’s pricey, but you get what you pay for.
