Is the higher ground clearance of the Tata Intra a better option for rural deliveries?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views8 answers
Among the small commercial vehicle segment, the Tata Intra series has a higher ground clearance than some of its competitors. This feature has drawn comments on its suitability for rural and semi urban areas where road conditions can be tough. In support of the case, proponents say the higher ground clearance means the Intra can negotiate rough ground, unpaved roads or flooded streets, making it suitable for rural deliveries or businesses located in less developed areas. But skeptics doubt whether the higher ground clearance really changes things in the real world and whether it’s done at the cost of other important factors like stability or loading height. The debate is carried into discussions of overall vehicle durability, the costs of maintaining a vehicle in rough conditions, and the balance between urban and rural use in vehicle design. It also discusses the wider issues with infrastructure in rural India and how vehicle makers are retooling their products to meet those needs.

It's overkill for most users, I think. However most rural roads are fine with standard clearance unless you’re regularly fording streams.

Ground clearance isn’t the only thing. Overall, the Intra seems to be built better for rough conditions than some of the competition.

Ground clearance is good, but it’s the availability of parts in rural areas that counts. There, Tata has an edge because of its network.

I don't think it's worth the center of gravity penalty. It feels a bit less stable on highways than lower vehicles.

I like the versatility as I operate in both urban and rural areas. It does fine on city streets, and doesn’t flinch at rough rural roads.

Nice ground clearance but a pain to load and unload. There's always a trade-off.

It's useful, but I think people exaggerate how important it is. For rural deliveries, good tires and suspension matter more.

Absolutely! The higher ground clearance is a life saver on rural roads. I've been through some pretty tough spots and not gotten so much as a scratch.
