Is the ground clearance of the Kia Syros a deal breaker on Indian roads?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
For the Indian car buyer, ground clearance is a make or break factor, given the different road conditions in the country. The exact ground clearance of the Kia Syros is yet not announced, but there is speculation that it could be lower than what is expected from the vehicles in this segment. The debates over its suitability on Indian roads have been fuelled by the fact that we have poor infrastructure. A few say the car's practicality and potential other features outweigh the possible absence of low ground clearance, while others don't. The discussion also asks whether potential urban buyers, who will likely be the Syros' target audience, really need high ground clearance or if it's more of a perceived need than an actual need.

I believe it's more about the idea of safety and ruggedness that goes with having higher ground clearance. If it's too low, even though practically it's sufficient, Kia might have a hard time selling it.

Most people who buy these cars never leave the city, let’s be real. Probably more than enough ground clearance for the target audience.

It depends on where you live. It’s probably fine for metro cities. Higher clearance is a must though, but for tier 2 or 3 cities, or anyone who travels between cities often.

It may even be a bit lower, but if it works, the practicality might be worth it. I prefer more interior space and being a little more careful over speed bumps.

Until the official specs come out, I think we should wait to judge. Kia is not stupid, they know the Indian market. It will be competitive clearance, I bet.

Are you kidding? India requires ground clearance. With one bad road or big speed breaker, you’re scraping the bottom. It's a deal-breaker for me.

For city use, ground clearance is overrated. Such clearance is not really needed on most urban roads. For its target audience, the Syros should be fine.
