Is the Grand i10 Nios underpowered on highways?

The Grand i10 Nios is powered by a 1.2 liter petrol engine, which makes 83 PS of power, which is enough for city driving. But its performance on highways, with a fully loaded vehicle or when overtaking, is often disputed. Some drivers, however, find the car to be struggling to make it up to higher speeds or lacking the punch for quick overtakes. The car can cruise on a highway if driven sensibly, others argue. The talk mostly centers on the car’s stability at high speeds, its ability to ascend ghats with a full load and how it fares against its rivals in the same segment. The debate is further skewed with the addition of the turbo petrol variant, which many believe is a must have if you spend a lot of time on the highway.

Not at all! The Nios cruises at a comfortable 100–120 km/h. It's not a race car, but it has enough oomph for highways.

It is a bit weak on the highway when fully loaded, yeah. You have to plan your overtakes really.

For occasional highway trips, it’s fine, but if you’re a regular highway driver, you may want something with a little more power.

I never had any trouble on highways. You just drive within the limits of the car and you don't expect sports car performance.

This problem is solved by the turbo variant. It's much more peppier and a breeze on the highway.

Compared with some rivals, it's underpowered, but it's more fuel efficient. Trade-offs, you know?

I find it perfectly adequate. Remember, this is a city car first. Given its size and price, it does all right on highways.
